Let’s Break it Down

Overall Design: 

The Competition Xtreme was the result of careful and meticulous planning with the Xtreme Performance Houndsman in mind. Truck beds are getting smaller and Houndsman XP recognized the need to conserve bed space without sacrificing real world needs of hound comfort and security. At only 36 inches deep, you can still have up to two feet of available bed space between the Competition Xtreme and the cab. The Compact design offers your dog 13,608 cubic inches / 7.9 cubic ft per side of transport area. The Full Size offers a whopping 17,280 cubic inches / 10 cubic ft per side of transport space. The top storage boxes were split to allow for rear view visibility while driving. The space between the boxes is large enough for most 20q coolers.

Frame:

Aluminum .060 square tube and welded. Each corner is double supported and the top edge on each side has a double tube construction to protect against crushing. We put shims on the top supports to create. Slight crown to ensure proper drainage. The next big rain storm will not result in a carp pond on top of your box.

Doors:

The door on a dog box if a fail point. You will open these doors thousands of times in the lifetime of one hound. These are built to last the lifetime of several hounds. That like 210 years in dog years. The Competition Xtreme boast a solid frame square tube aluminum with full lengths stainless steel piano hinge. The folding locking T handles ensure a snug fit to the tailgate without wasting space. These doors are secured into the frame of the door and the frame of the box. Our door also offers a secure yet easy venting system that lives out of the door easily to make it ready for any weather condition.

Vents:

Lift-Slide-Lock Finally an actual working slide vent. This design will allow you to regulate the amount of air flow to your dog and it doesn’t move while rolling down the road to the next big event. There are two massive vents in the back of the box, massive vents on each side and if you remove the slide vents from the doors you have enough airflow that your hound will need a comb over.

Insulation:

Real, Effective and Safe This is not the standard blue plastic cardboard. We searched for a real insulation that provided industry leading effectiveness for insulation. Insulation should provide radiant thermal protection from the outside and temperature retention on the inside. THERMAL 3Ht is a laminate insulation featuring two reflective coatings and a polystyrene insulation. The Competition Xtreme features .5 inches of real insulation that is sandwiched between the interior liner and the aluminum shell of the box.

Interior:

Virtually Indestructable- if your hound can tear up the inside box you don't need a new box, you need a new dog. The interior was designed with zero chew points. The fiberglass sheeting is an industry standard in the pet industry and meets USDA regulations for kennel and dog professionals. It is slick, easy to clean and tough.

Top Storage:

Big enough to store all of the things you don't need; secure enough to protect the things you do. The top storage boxes are independently built and attached to the top of the box to ensure that you have a secure, weather proof storage space for all of you essential gear. The storage boxes are built with a weather proof lip that fits snugly into the lid and weather seal. The hinges are full lengths stainless steel. The box is secured by a locking slap latch.
